Sasuke was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. He was the younger of two siblings brought into this world by Uchiha Fugaku and Mikoto. His elder brother, Itachi, was always to remain something of a stranger to him.
In his younger years Sasuke was a little more carefree. He looked at life with the naivety that most children are fortunate enough to possess, but being born into a wealthy and dutiful family as he was, there were still obligations that even he had to meet. Being his father's youngest son was never easy. Fugaku had high expectations of his children, and it seemed Itachi lived up to those expectations with a skill and ease that Sasuke didn't possess at that time. Much to his own personal dismay he struggled to keep up and to impress his father, most of his early efforts shunned by Fugaku... or simply having gone unnoticed at all.
Sasuke reasoned his attempts were in vain because of his lack of comprehension surrounding his father's career. He concluded, at no later an age than seven, that he needed to learn more about the path of law his father so adamantly followed, and he needed to start showing a more avid interest in his own future... and the path he would someday take.
Sadly it wasn't until Fugaku and Itachi began to drift apart, sometime when Sasuke was around eight years old, that Fugaku began to notice Sasuke more. Mikoto always claimed that Sasuke's father was very interested in Sasuke, but it wasn't until Fugaku offered on more than one occasion to show Sasuke personally a facet of his work that he began to believe his mother. He was excited to see the environment that his father worked in, to meet some of the people that he associated with being chief of police in the Sapporo area. It was an experience that he did not hesitate to absorb and make the best of. It was an experience that entitled him to the perfect opportunity to further impress his father... and he did just that with his insight on a case one day. Fugaku, proud of Sasuke's achievement, grateful for the different point of view, said to Sasuke, "As expected of my son."
It was the start of a new bond between one son and his father. In the end, it was also the start of the deterioration of a bond between that same father and another son. Fugaku and Itachi grew increasingly distant, both going so far as not to even meet the other's eyes or say a word to one another. Sasuke wasn't able to understand what it was about each other that they didn't seem to like for he admired both men considerably... but then again, maybe he was never to know.
When Sasuke turned fourteen he moved with his family to Sacramento, California. Fugaku had been offered a better job working for the police there and had previously been working on obtaining a United States citizenship, one that would be easier cemented with his living in the country. Sasuke threw himself into his studies in high school and tried not to pay too much attention to the distraction that his home life was proving to be, as well as the distractions of being an attractive teenager. There were several girls that fawned over him at home, and more in America, but none of which received any immediate attention from him that was required outside of school related tasks.
Shortly after turning fifteen, however, life was to take a dramatic change for Sasuke, and not for the better. Coming home from school one day he was to find his home surrounded by police... and his entry restricted despite the fact that he lived there. The blare of the sirens and the bold contrast of the yellow crime scene tape all around the property were ill omens. The absence of his parents and his brother were the most telling signs of all. The officer assigned to look after Sasuke temporarily wasn't permitted to describe the scene as a massacre, but that was exactly what it had been and Sasuke knew it. The culprit didn't leave any telling evidence, the officer had told Sasuke, but he had promised they would find the person who had done it, somehow, someway.
It altered the way Sasuke was forever to look at the world... the death of his parents and the disappearance of his brother (for Itachi's DNA was not to be found at all at the crime scene). After attending a half-year of therapy he was able to throw himself into the remaining time he was to spend at high school... His grades, to the surprise of his teachers, were nothing short of flawless. By his final year there were several colleges and universities willing to accept him across the country. Sasuke settled upon one in upstate New York and disappeared from Sacramento.
His life from there became very focused. He cut out social activity from his schedule and centered himself around his school and his desire to get into law... and find the person who had robbed him of his family. For three and a half years he plowed through courses in school and online thinking of nothing else but where he wanted to be in a few years time and who he wanted to bring to justice - and with his family's money he had all the resources that he could possibly need at his disposal.
It lead him to an early graduation from college - the result of many accelerated courses and plenty of social sacrifices - and immediately afterwards he decided to move to San Francisco for another new start... and a transfer into their Police Academy. He had heard good things about the recruits and officers there... and he wasn't about to settle for anything less than the best education he could be offered. |
